Outreach Program Volunteer

Franciscan Peacemakers seeks compassionate volunteers to support our Outreach Program serving women impacted by sexual exploitation, homelessness, and substance use. Volunteers help create a welcoming, respectful environment where women can access basic needs, build relationships, and connect to support.

Volunteer shifts are available Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Shifts can be flexible and arranged based on volunteer availability.

 

 

Hospitality Center Support

Location: 34th & Lisbon, Milwaukee
Model: Drop-in hospitality space

Volunteers in the Hospitality Center help create a warm and welcoming space for guests.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Greeting guests and helping create a respectful, welcoming environment

  • Making coffee and helping prepare the space for visitors

  • Distributing bagged lunches and heating up meals

  • Assembling hygiene kits and organizing basic needs supplies

  • Recording visit information on a tracking sheet

  • Assisting staff with hospitality and basic operational needs

The Hospitality Center typically serves 7–18 women each day.

 

 

Street Outreach Support

Schedule: Wednesday and Thursday mornings
Setting: Outreach in the community using a Franciscan Peacemakers minivan

Volunteers accompany staff during outreach to connect with women where they are.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting the outreach driver during routes

  • Distributing bagged lunches and basic need items

  • Recording outreach interactions on a tracking sheet

  • Supporting staff in creating respectful, compassionate interactions with women in the community

The Street Outreach team typically serves between 3-12 women a day. 

 

 

Qualities We Are Looking For

The women we serve often live with intersecting traumas related to exploitation, homelessness, and substance use. Volunteers should demonstrate:

  • Compassion and empathy

  • A non-judgmental approach to service

  • Sensitivity to trauma and complex life experiences

  • Reliability and a willingness to learn
